What Problem Does Kubernetes Actually Solve?

Objective

Explain what problem Kubernetes solves once you have more than a couple of containers.

Someone has to make these decisions

Once you have more than a couple of containers, someone has to decide which machine each one runs on, restart it when it crashes, and reroute traffic when it moves.

Kubernetes is that someone

Kubernetes is that someone - an orchestrator that takes a declared desired state ("run 3 copies of this container, always") and continuously works to keep reality matching it, restarting and rescheduling automatically instead of paging a human every time something dies.
